Third European Commission call for funding urban innovation projects

Commissione europea

The European Commission has issued a third request for proposals totalling 90 million euros under the European Urban Initiative.

Applications must be submitted by 14 October, and projects submitted must include innovative solutions in cities to contribute to the green and digital transitions and focus on one of the two priorities set out in the call: energy transition, to test and explore concrete innovative solutions to ensure safer, cleaner and affordable local energy systems; and technology in cities, to explore emerging technologies and digital solutions to improve public services, urban governance, quality of life and citizen engagement, and make cities safer and more accessible for all.

The European Regional Development Fund will co-finance 80% of project costs, with a maximum of 5 million euros per project. A portion of this financing will go towards the transfer of knowledge and the adaption of tested solutions to other EU cities, ensuring that local projects have a broader social and economic impact across Europe. Local government and project partners will cover the remaining 20%.
