The European Commission pays Italy its first instalment of 21 billion euros

On 13 April, the European Commission paid Italy the first instalment of 21 billion euros for the National Recovery and Resilience Plan, following the positive assessment of the payment request submitted by Rome at the end of December, which has certified the achievement of the 51 goals set in the NRRP for 2021.

The instalment, which follows the disbursement in August of 24.9 billion euros in pre-financing, has a total value of approximately 24.1 billion euros, with a share of non-repayable contributions of 11.5 billion euros and a share of loans of 12.6 billion euros. The amount actually disbursed of 21 billion euros (spread between 10 billion euros of grants and 11 billion euros of loans) is net of a share that the Commission retains on each repayment instalment, equal to 13% of the pre-financing received in August 2021 by Italy.

The payment of the first instalment of the NRRP represents a further step in the path of implementation of the investments and reforms provided for in the Plan. These actions will accelerate the ecological and digital transition, strengthen the production system, modernise public administration, reduce the time of justice and increase the country’s infrastructure.
