The European Commission has adopted the 2022 Work Programme for Creative Europe, with a budget of around 385 million euros, almost 100 million euros more than in 2021, to support cultural and creative sector partners to face the Covid-19 crisis and the increasing worldwide competition.

The programme is divided into several sections. The Culture section of the programme will include new calls and initiatives in the fields of music, cultural heritage, performing arts and literature. A mobility programme will also be launched which will offer artists, creators or cultural professionals the opportunity to travel abroad for their professional development or for international collaborations and to reach new audiences, co-produce, create together or present their work.

The Media section focuses on the audio-visual sector and several new features will be introduced in 2022. Support for the development of innovative video games and virtual reality experiences will be funded. A new action, "Media 360º", will be aimed at leading industry forums that interact with businesses along the entire value chain of the audio-visual sector. To further promote innovation, the Media market portal for promising start-ups will be launched. Cooperation between film festivals through networks will also be strengthened.

The Trans-sectoral section will increase funding for the Creative Innovation Laboratory for joint innovation projects involving different creative sectors, also contributing to the new European Bauhaus. Support for the media will also be expanded through further measures to promote media freedom.
