3 million euros for the new European protection of artisan and industriaI IGP products

Nuova tutela europea dei prodotti IGP artigianali e industriali

The implementing decree of the Made in Italy law has been published in the Official Gazette. This is announced by the Ministry, which explains that, in agreement with the MEF (Ministry of Economy and Finance), the criteria for granting and disbursing the state contribution to producer associations for technical consultancy expenses incurred in preparing the production specifications for typical industrial and artisan products have been defined. The decree provides for contributions of up to 30,000 euros.

The new European safeguard of protected geographical indications will have a positive impact on producers, on the regions where the original typical products are produced, and on consumers, who will be able to benefit from products identified by the production specification, on which a common logo will be affixed for artisanal and industrial EU PGI products.

As of 1 December 2025, the preparation of the specification will be a prerequisite for applying for registration of a Protected Geographical Indication (PGI) also for artisanal and industrial products. The title will be valid throughout the European Union. The same safeguards provided for protected geographical indications in the agri-food sector will thus be extended to craft and industrial products.

The procedures and deadlines for submitting applications to access the contribution will be defined by a subsequent decree of the General Manager for Industrial Property - Italian Patent and Trademark Office, Market and Protection Department of the Ministry of Enterprise.
